Live Online Classroom Option: Enrolling

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Apologia Biology is a popular home school curriculum with home school families who want a rigorous curriculum but prefer less emphasis on evolution and an an open acknowledgment of the existence of God.

When will the class be enrolling?

  • Rolling admissions policy - This class runs year round and has multiple points at which new students can jump in. The live class may be at module 11, for instance, when a student jumps in. The next week after the class finishes module 16, it rounds back around to module 1. The student jumping in at module 11 will graduate when they complete module 10, 9-months later. The exception to rolling admission will be modules 5 through 8. Those modules do build one upon the other, so student would either need until module 9 to wait or catch up using the asynchronous tools to do the live session. This course has run continuously for about 5 years and the rolling admissions design has worked great for students, especially when their family didn't discover our program until mid-year. They can jump in without waiting for the next semester to begin.
When does this class meet?
  • Live Online Classroom Option: T, W, and TH (3 classes needed per week to cover all the content). There are three session time options on those days to chose from. Attend either the 8am Central, 10am Central, or 2:30pm Central session times in the online classroom. Students are free to change up which session time they attend whenever they wish, no notification needed.
Will the class meet live in or will it be an asynchronous class?
  • At Your Own Pace Option: This course has an independent study option as well as a live class option. You can select either one and even move between them at will in this course copy. In the asynchronous option, you can work your way through the modules at your own pace using study helps, quizzes, links to resources, and live teacher assistance during our open office hours Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the online classroom (you will need speakers or headphone) if you need help. In the live class option, you will be going at the pace of the class which is generally one module every 2 weeks with the exception of module 6 which takes 3 weeks to complete.

Can I observe a live class before deciding?

  • Absolutely! Just contact me and I will orient you to how the first and second week of the modules are laid out and give you a hand accessing the classroom for the first time. If you would like to see the course page as well before deciding, enroll in the at-your-own-pace option course and 'kick the tires' a bit. If you do decide to go with the live class option, I can move your enrollment to this course copy for ease of getting live class specific announcements out.

I would like to know more about the instructor. Is there a bio somewhere I can read?

  • You can probably get to know me best by browsing my website - Just a Bit Moore. The link is http://justabitmoore.weebly.com/. There you will learn more about my background as a professional illustrator and portrait artist, meet my family through pictures of them growing up in our home school adventures, and see pages specific to the courses here that I use for newsletters for enrolled families.

Co-op Option

The course is available as a resource for local co-ops. Most biology co-op meeting days have too much material to cram in to too few hours leaving students and teacher overwhelmed. Let your co-op meeting day be just a lab day and have the students log in here on their own time during the week to watch module lecture recordings for the content, take quizzes, upload assignments, access your co-op's schedule, contact details, grade book, etc. The idea is this site keeps us all from having to continually reinvent the wheel. Contact Tammy Moore (armoorefam@centurytel.net) for more information about our Co-op partner program. As always, it is free.
